Disney Pulls $1 Billion Investment as OpenAI Shuts Down Sora
In a move that has sent shockwaves through both Silicon Valley and Hollywood, OpenAI has officially announced the shutdown of its AI video generation tool, Sora. Despite the initial hype surrounding its launch, the company cited a need to redirect resources toward other areas, such as robotics and “agent AI”. Insiders suggest the decision is also heavily influenced by the extreme litigation risks and copyright challenges inherent in AI-generated video (02:45).
Disney Exits the Deal
The shutdown has led to the immediate cancellation of a massive $1 billion investment deal from Disney. Last year, the entertainment giant pledged the capital and agreed to license its iconic character IPs for use within the Sora platform. With the service now closing, Disney is exiting the agreement, reclaiming its investment and its protected characters (03:17).
