Robert Downey Jr. Is Reportedly Playing Four Separate Characters
This is the detail that has the internet completely losing its mind. It’s already confirmed that RDJ is back as Doctor Doom, but X-Men comic book legend Chris Claremont dropped the bombshell that Downey is actually playing four distinct characters across Doomsday and Secret Wars.
- That includes Doctor Doom, Iron Man, and at least two others that haven’t been officially confirmed yet.
- Chris Evans is also reportedly returning in multiple roles including Captain America and a variant called Captain Hydra.
- If this holds up it means the Russo Brothers are building something so layered and ambitious that it makes Endgame look straightforward by comparison.
The Full Cast Is Bigger Than Anyone Expected and Filming Is Already Underway
Marvel Studios is currently casting background roles for Secret Wars right now, with descriptions ranging from military personnel and survivors to scientists and enhanced beings.
- That variety of roles is already telling fans a lot about the scale of the film. Famke Janssen is reportedly returning as Jean Grey and Phoenix.
- Elizabeth Olsen is coming back as Scarlet Witch despite previously denying it.
- Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed he’s in Secret Wars in a big way.
- Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are all confirmed from the Fantastic Four.
Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-2026 and run for roughly six months, with the film currently set for December 17, 2027. This is shaping up to be the most stacked cast in Marvel history and it’s not particularly close.
