Key Points From This Video
Dr. Paul Saladino recently partnered with the Animal-Based Nutrition Research Foundation to test seven popular salts for heavy metals and microplastics, and the results were a wake-up call for health-conscious consumers.
- Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt emerged as the top performer in the study, testing completely free of lead, arsenic, aluminum, and microplastics.
- Celtic Sea Salt and Redmond Real Salt were found to contain significant levels of lead, with Celtic Sea Salt exceeding California Prop 65 limits at 2.3 micrograms per teaspoon.
- Kirkland Sea Salt was flagged for having the highest aluminum content among the seven brands tested.
- Maldon and Jacobsen sea salts were found to be free of heavy metals, though they did contain trace amounts of microplastics.
