The Lanterns HBO Trailer 2 Just Dropped and DC FINALLY Got It Right?!

DC Listened to the Backlash and the Second Trailer Is So Much Better
The first Lanterns trailer landed in March and the reaction was brutal. This is the trailer DC should have launched with and it’s already doing exactly what it needed to do: remind people why they should be excited about this show.
- Fans were furious that a Green Lantern show barely showed any Green Lantern powers, no constructs, no ring action, and barely any green at all.
- The trailer was then pulled offline due to an expired music license for a Bruce Springsteen track, which only added to the chaos.
- James Gunn clearly took note… This second trailer is a completely different energy. Hal Jordan is suited up in full Green Lantern costume. He’s blocking an orbital laser with a giant ring construct. He’s conjuring counterfeit dollar bills at a bar just to show off.
The Show Itself Looks Like Nothing DC Has Done Before
What makes Lanterns genuinely exciting beyond the action is the format. The series is structured like True Detective, following two separate timelines simultaneously.
- The 2016 storyline follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating what looks like an alien related shooting in the small rural town of Rushville.
- The 2026 timeline picks up after the events of Superman and layers in a second mystery that runs alongside the first.
- Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are compelling together, with a mentor and rookie dynamic that has real friction and genuine chemistry.
