Avengers Doomsday Moving Dates to Avoid “Dunesday”?

It’s Movie Math Time! Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer is once again proving that the theatrical calendar is a strategic battlefield, and Marvel might be the next one to retreat.

Watch the full breakdown in the video below:

The “Dunesday” Situation Explained

Currently, both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are slated for a December 18, 2026 release. Here is what the reports are saying:

  • The Snagging Strategy: Grace speculates that Disney’s massive presence at CinemaCon is aimed at “snagging” IMAX and Premium Large Format (PLF) screens for Avengers: Doomsday.
  • Warner Bros. Countermove: She suggests Warner Bros. put Dune: Part Three tickets on sale incredibly early specifically to lock in those screens so Disney couldn’t take them away during their presentation.

Box Office Analysis

  • Super Mario Galaxy: The film is lagging behind the first movie. Grace notes the Rotten Tomatoes audience score slipped below 90%, which she calls a “box office canary in the coal mine” for a major franchise (06:53).
  • Michael (The Michael Jackson Biopic): Grace feels the energy isn’t quite there yet. She criticized the timing of press screenings and expressed concern that Lionsgate isn’t setting it up as enough of an “event” (08:25).
  • The Drama (A24): This rom-com is performing well, falling only 39% in its second weekend. It’s currently outperforming Challengers domestically and is on track to break even (17:14).

Streaming & TV Trends

The Pit: The Season 2 finale is this week, Grace predicts it will sweep the drama categories at award shows for a second year in a row (26:08).

Margot’s Got Money Trouble: This new Apple TV+ series is highly recommended by Grace. Despite being very R-rated, she praised the writing by David E. Kelley and Elle Fanning’s performance (33:45).
